In a tone that bore subtle cynicism
"Love is a mere thought and nothing more",
But before the words left my tongue to disagree
I realized this "love" wasn't in me
"We are just simple bodies controlled by nature's instincts", she said
But I swore to myself love could conquer all
If you care about someone, you wouldn't hurt them right?
I asked myself as I professed it like it was the truth
She responded, "I've seen love fall so may times I've come to doubt it entirely"
And as much as I wanted to reassure her it was still possible I'd realized I'd already failed my love
See we as humans cannot love
Because to love is to put those things we cherish before everything else
And since we are mere vessels for our instincts
We can never truly put anything or anyone before ourselves.
Have you ever loved to love?
Never thinking to be loved, or touched or kissed?
Have you ever felt loved, just love with no request in return
Love is pure and something so pure is truly a mere thought and can never be tangible in our lives.
"Welcome to Reality", she told me
